CHENNAI, July 29: The Central Bureau of Investigation today informed a city court that it was continuing investigation into the quot;uranium theft casequot; here, although a leading nuclear research establishment said that the material seized was not uranium, but limenite, a non-strategic substance having ordinary industrial applications.

The CBI, which has arrested three so far in this case, today obtained an extension of police custody for the first two accused till August 3, saying it was necessary for further investigation.

The CBI appeared to have unearthed a uranium theft racket recently, when it seized six kilogrammes of quot;uraniumquot; and held two persons. Later, it seized two more kilogrammes and a 31 kg piece of platinum and arrested another.
