The Central Bureau of Investigation on Thursday got down to investigate the unnatural death of Rizwanur Rehman and called up industrialist Ashok Todi8217;s family to say that some of them should not leave the city. The CBI officers also got in touch with Rizwanur8217;s family members and had preliminary talks, the details of which were not disclosed.

Meanwhile, the new Commissioner of Kolkata Police, G M Chakraborty, called up Rukbanur Rehman, brother of Rizwan to enquire if they needed any security. The family informed him that they did not require any security.

Earlier, talking to The Indian Express, Arun Kumar, joint director, Special Crime Branch, CBI said: 8220;We have initiated the ground work for investigating the case, and established initial contacts with people related to the case. We are discussing with legal experts regarding the case. All I can say is that everyone, even those having the slightest connection to the case will be interrogated by our men. I can8217;t comment any further,8221; he said.

It is learnt that the Special Crime Branch of CBI will soon register a case regarding the circumstances leading to the unnatural death of Rizwanur Rehman. Sources indicated that the CBI might not treat the case merely as an unnatural death. There is a strong possibility of incorporating sections of IPC so that the aspect of any abetment to commit suicide may also be covered.

The preliminary report of CID, submitted to the government, might prove to be handy for the CBI as it reportedly corroborated the 8220;intervention8221; by Kolkata police officers in the legal marriage of two adults8212;Rizwanur and Priyanka. The CPIM state secretary, Biman Bose, told mediapersons on Wednesday that the CID indicated the involvement of Kolkata police officers in trying to break up Rizwanur8217;s marriage.

The CBI is also closely examining the petition of Rizwanur8217;s mother before the Calcutta High Court. 8220;We have closely evaluated the Calcutta High Court order and the petition filed by Rizwanur8217;s mother. We are in the process of registering a strong case. We have asked certain members of the Todi family not to leave the city without informing us. Contacts have also been established with victim8217;s family,8221; said an officer.
