Go For Gold
The city8217;s show season will be flagged off by the World Gold Council8217;s jewellery preview exclusively for the select few at Taj Palace tomorrow. Though top jewellery houses are holding previews of their new collections, what makes this one distinctly different is the effort of the Council and NIFT to create jewellery to suit the changing needs of the woman of today.

NIFT has opted for three basic themes: Indo-Asian, Indo-Western and Regional. All the participating jewellers were given the trend book, Fusion, to follow, and that is what the show8217;s being called. It features names like Bhola Sons, Khanna Jewellers, Hazoorilal, Nand Kishore Meghraj, Goel Jewellers, Sant Ram Mangat Ram, Punjab Jewellers, Lal Sons and Jetha Bhai, so you can well imagine the glitter on the ramp when their designs adorn the sexy forms of seasoned models. The names doing the rounds for the by invitation only8217; show are Mehar Basin, Ruchi Malhotra, Shefali Talwar and Shweta Menon. The winning ways of these winsome women promise to make cash registers ring.

No-Show?
The gossip mills are still working overtime on the NIFT-AEPC Road Show, New York. There could be two ways of looking at the whole thing: Are the people who are making a hue and cry about the show being a disaster the ones who were left out? It could as easily have been a classic case of sour grapes as a disaster, as claimed by many. Did the show really have crumpled clothes on the ramp, with designers doubling as helpers backstage?

I really can8217;t figure out what the truth is. Having worked with both AEPC which, incidentally, is the Apparel Export Promotion Council and NIFT, I know that both organisations are professional, they they belong to the Government of India. So, their being in any way responsible for a disaster of this magnitude seems a bit hard to digest.

Woman Power
I met Blossom Kochhar recently and found her in a state of high excitement over her new beauty spa at 36 Milestone not to be confused with 32, also on NH8. All you have to do is take some time off and leave yourself in the hands of her aroma therapists to revive yourself after days of delirium. Kochhar, however, has her hands full. The spa is just one part of her burgeoning business. She runs beauty parlours, gives professional hair-styling classes, has a shop that makes aroma candles, and is well on her to opening another parlour at Radisson Hotel. And she8217;s a grandmom, too. I have always believed in the innate strength of women and meeting gentle yet charged people like Blossom makes my belief even stronger.

Stores amp; Bores
It8217;s a special day today for designer Monisha Bajaj, who8217;s opening her solo store at C-369, Defence Colony. I like the way she uses fabrics like jamdani and brocade with crepes and plain silk. Monisha loves pastel shades and it seems her love is shared by her clients, of whom she has quite many.

Mixing and matching may be working for Monisha, but it doesn8217;t for comperes who are trying hard to be event managers. There8217;s nothing wrong about being ambitious, but I wish they concentrate more on their diction and delivery. And leave event management to professionals.
