VADODARA, June 20: Recovery of eight used cartridges from the possession of city-based builder Suresh Patel 8212; allegedly involved in the sensational firing on an ex-serviceman Raman Dahyabhai Patel in wee hours of Friday 8212; has sent the police in a tizzy. The accused is currently in police remand till Monday.

Besides the recovery of a licenced revolver 8212; issued to the accused in November 1997 8212; and the used cartridges, police also seized 32 live ones from the builder8217;s house.

The police are now investigating as to how and where the cartridges were used, because the builder had not informed the police about use of his revolver and nor did he submit the used cartridges to the police after its use; which is mandatory.

According to the investigators, it is compulsory for the weapon-holder to keep a full record of ammunition purchased and immediately bring it to the notice of the police whenever they were used.

A senior police official told Express Newsline that the builder had admitted of using some bullets for killing wild animals at his farmhouse in Dabhoi and some for checking if the weapon was in working condition.

When asked whether the weapon-holder could use the weapon for practicing, he answered in the positive, but admitted that killing of wild animals did amount to offence.

According to sources, though a fresh case under the wildlife act was likely to be registered against the builder, senior officials said that investigations were still on and a fresh clause would be added to already registered case after investigations were completed.

Earlier, Patel and his associates, including Thakar, had visited the victim8217;s house on early Friday morning, reportedly to know the whereabouts of dreaded criminal Raju Rohida. Thakar allegedly fired on the ex-serviceman with Patel8217;s revolver when the the victim denied any knowledge about Rohida.

The victim, also a former associate of underworld don Gattu Kahar, knew Raju Rohida very well, sources said, adding that Kahar and Rohida had been good friends and helped each other in their underground activities.

While Thakar is on interim bail till Monday, Patel8217;s driver Kamlesh Christian and another associate Babubhai Jivabhai Patel, a resident of Chhotaudepur, are in judicial custody.
