A gang of five unknown persons held a call centre cab driver at knifepoint and fled with his car near Wakad junction on the Pune-Mumbai highway around 9 pm on Thursday.

The cab driver, Nemchand Dhokne 26, a resident of Ravet, lodged a complaint with Sangvi police station. Police said Dhokne was returning home after dropping the employees of a Kaylaninagar-based call centre when a bicycle intercepted the car near the Y-junction at Wakad.

As soon as Dhokne stopped the car, two persons waiting at the spot rushed towards him. Pointing a knife at Dhokne, they dragged him inside the car and took over the steering. They then called two more accomplices, who were on a motorcycle.

The robbers fled the spot and took the car in the premises of Aundh Chest Hospital. They snatched Dhokne8217;s mobile phone, Rs 100 and threw him out.
