The CPIM Politburo reiterated its much-talked-about decision today: 8220;the party cannot do without the advice and experience of Jyoti Basu8221;. Basu, 93, who stepped down as chief minister of the state in 2000-end, has occasionally asked to be relieved from the highest policy-making body as well but to no avail. 8220;Today, we discussed the matter. We are aware of the fact that he can no longer work as actively as he could in the past. But we still need his advice and experience, and so we requested him to continue as a Politburo member and he agreed,8221; Karat said.
