Canadian girl found unconscious on ghat

Three days after a 23-year-old Canadian girl was found unconscious on Kedar Ghat in Varanasi, police are still to record her statement. No FIR has yet been lodged.

However, a sadhu, Anand Giri, has been detained for interrogation. 8220;During investigation, we found the girl was seen in his company. We are interrogating him,8221; Bhelpur SHO M P Tewari said over phone. He said no evidence of rape was found in the preliminary medical examination. The girl was examined by doctors of Heritage Hospital here. 8220;No injury was found on external or internal genital area. There is no definite evidence of rape. We are waiting for the pathology report,8221; the SHO quoted the report of her preliminary medical examination. The girl is at present undergoing treatment.

Meanwhile, the girl8217;s father reached Varanasi on Sunday. 8220;He has given us in writing that his daughter is not in a position to make a statement before the police,8221; the SHO said.
