AMBALA, Nov 1: The bus service between Ambala City and Cantonment through the Air Force road was resumed today after about five years when it was discontinued due to the restrictions imposed on the use of cantonment area.

Local legislator Anil Vij today flagged off the bus for this route from the Military Farm bus stop in the presence of residents of several surrounding localities. The MLA had earlier taken up the issue with the Army and Cantonment Board authorities.

The residents of Baldev Nagar and its suburban areas, with a population of more than 20,000, had been denied the local bus service to reach the twin towns of Ambala. The residents had been requesting both the Army and civil authorities to restore the route. Cantonment Board member Umesh Sahni had also raised the issue with the board, which, in consultations with the Army authorities, agreed to restore the route last week. It may be recalled that the restrictions had been imposed in wake of subversive activities in the Army area.

The Army authorities, however, have not lifted the restriction on the movement of heavy vehicles from Punjab and Uttar Pradesh from either side of the Air Force road.
