
NEW DELHI, September 24: A three-storeyed building under construction, with an illegal basement, in West Rohtas Nagar, Shahdara, collapsed at around 5 on Thursday evening. No casualties have been reported. The walls of adjacent buildings have developed deep cracks because of the collapse. Umesh Chandna, the building8217;s owner, and the construction contractor have gone missing.
Incessant rains resulted in logging of the basement with 10 feet of water. Labourers who were pumping the water out heard a cracking sound. The workers alongwith the owner immediately left the site. Repeated complaints about the illegal method of the building8217;s construction had reportedly been made to the MCD. TWO labourers died and three others were injured when a three-month old wall of a DVB sub-station in Gamri village, that they were sleeping beside, collapsed at around 2.30 on Thursday morning.
