A builder locked up an elderly woman in her house for more than 10 hours on Monday for violating a sale agreement between them.
Christine Joseph 52, who owns a property on South Purbachal Hospital Road, had signed an agreement to sell it to a local promoter, Shankar Das, nearly three months ago.

Das had also paid an advance of Rs 3 lakh to Joseph after signing the agreement. Last month, she was contacted by another builder, who promised her to pay Rs 19 lakh for the property. Joseph signed another agreement with the second promoter and after taking an advance of Rs 1 lakh from him she left her house.
When Joseph returned on Monday to collect her belongings, Das and his associate locked her door from outside and filed a complaint against her at the Kasba police station.
Finally, the police intervened around midnight and broke the lock. 8220;On Tuesday morning, we received a complaint from her son David Joseph and arrested Das,8221; said Shankar Biswas, Officer In-charge of the Kasba police station. Later, the agreement with the second promoter was cancelled.
