BSF shooters set to regain the title

CHANDIGARH, April 20: Top teams including defending champions Indo-Tibetan Border Police and last year runners-up Border Security Force will be seen in action in shooting events in the All India Duty Police meet, which will commence tomorrow at the Army Shooting Ranges at Ambala.

The other participating teams includes Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Punjab Police, Delhi Police, Chandigarh Police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).

The competition will be held in pistol and rifle events.

The BSF shooters who have excellent track record in the meet, 18 win out of 20, are hoping to regain the title which they lost to ITBP in the last edition held at Bhopal. Most of the teams are camping in Chandigarh and are training here at the Patali Rao Shooting Ranges for the past few days. “Our preparation for the meet is going smooth, and we hope to regain the overall title,” said the BSF team coach on the eve of the tournament.

Some of the BSF shooters, who will take part in the pistol event are Manju Nath, Ram Chander, DS Yadav and Munir Ahmed. Manju Nath is the winner of the gold medal in the pistol event in the last edition.

Bhom Singh is another shooter, who had won gold for BSF in the last All India meet. He is taking part in 100 yards rifle event.

Hari Ram (rifle) and Rajinder (pistol), who are representing Delhi Police in the meet were medal winners in the Bhopal meet. Hari got gold in the 300 yards rifle event while Rajinder got a silver in 50 yards pistol event.

While other teams are training with modern service weapons like 9 mm pistol and Auto Loading Rifle (ALR), the Chandigarh cops who will be taking part in the meet, were seen honing their skill with outdated weapons. “We don’t have the latest weapon,” said one of the shooter, who had 303 rifle.

Some of the shooters, who are representing Chandigarh Police are Karambir (rifle), Ram Saroop (pistol), Holinder Singh (rifle) and Parminder Singh (pistol).

Raja Bala Boora (rifle) will represent Chandigarh in the women’s section.
