Broadcasting Bill by year end, says Dasmunsi

Minister of Information 038; Broadcasting Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi on Monday said the proposed Broadcasting Services Regulation Bill would be presented by the end of this year. 8220;We are trying to ensure that the Bill is presented by Winter Session,8221; said Dasmunsi at the Indian Institute of Mass Communication convocation 2007.

Claiming that the Bill would be a model for all, Dasmunsi said the Bill would be 8220;most non-confronting8221;. 8220;Our Government has no intention to curb the freedom of the press and we firmly believe that the media has a role in democracy to pinpoint the shortcomings of politicians.8221;

However, he said the media should also try to think of some self-restraint. 8220;Media while taking full advantage of freedom of expression needed to ponder over applying some self-restraint,8221; he said.
