VADODARA, May 27: In a step aimed at easing traffic congestion in the city, the Vadodara Municipal Corporation VMC has appointed Multimedia Consultants for advice on widening underbridges, bridges and laying flyovers. In the Standing Committee meeting on Thursday, the members approved a proposal to appoint the consultants at a cost of Rs 90 lakh. The consultants are said to have worked on similar projects in Ahmedabad, Surat and other cities.

The need for widening underbridges, bridges and constructing flyovers has been felt following an increase in the number of vehicles in the city.Way back in August 1998, the Standing Committee had accepted in-principle to appoint a consultant for the purpose following which six parties had applied.

According to information, plans are afoot to widen the Alkapuri and Dinesh Mill underbridges and the bridge near the Bahucharaji temple. While a need to join the eastern and western part of the city to ease traffic congestion in Sayajiganj and Vadodara Railway Station areas has also been felt, the VMC has started work on the revised Kolhatkar plan to tackle traffic problem near the railway station.
