JALANDHAR, July 23: A deputy superintendent of police (DSP), who was offered Rs. 40,000 as illegal gratification by two persons to help an accused, got a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act registered against them.DSP Sultanpur Lodhi, R. S. Brar got two persons, Balbir Singh and Kabal Singh arrested when they allegedly offered Rs. 40,000 as bribe to him in his office to help an accused, facing charges under the Narcotics Act.The two arrested persons wanted the police officer's help in softening the case against one Major Singh who was caught with 35 kg of poppy husk by a police party.A case under Section 9/12 of the Prevention of Corruption Act was registered against the two.Senior Superintendent of Police, Kapurthala, said that such actions would have a deterrent effect on wrong doers.
