PUNE, Nov 8: Technical experts from Bremen city in Germany will be submitting a report to the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation PCMC suggesting various projects for solid waste management.
The PCMC has already signed a memorandum of understanding with Bremen for exchange of technical knowhow on civic projects for sustainable development. As part of the MoU, a three day seminar on solid waste management organised in Pimpri concluded here on Friday.
Head of the regional office of Bremen Dr Elke Kerker and technical engineers Petter Fahsing, Renate Pasch and Frank Schweizer made their presentations at the seminar attended by both senior and junior level civic officials. Institutions such as Pune University, National Chemical Laboratory, Pune Municipal Corporation, Institute of Natural Organics and Pravin Vermiculture were also represented at the seminar.
Dr. Kerker, while speaking to newspersons, said that the corporation had two options 8211; that of adapting the vermicompost method for disposal of organic waste and the other of generation of power and biogas. If certain changes were made in the existing method of dumping of garbage, it could benefit production of manure and generation of biogas, she said.
The team of experts inspected the existing methods of solid waste management and discussed the merits and demerits of the projects. A team of PCMC officials are likely to visit Bremen early next year to study some of the solid waste management projects implemented there.
Meanwhile, the joint office of the PMC, PCMC and Bremen will be inaugurated in Pune on November 20. PMC has already signed a MoU for exchanging technical knowhow of civic projects.
