VADODARA, Nov 30: The Railway Board has decided to do away with the concept of break journeys as it existed. Passengers will no longer be able to use the same ticket to travel after disembarking for a break.
Earlier the passenger could take the first break after a distance of 800 kms and the second break journey before 300 kms of the destination. Those availing the facility had to travel within the next two and a half days from the day they took a break at a particular station.
Railway authorities point out that the system had to be done away with as the railway was losing out on the revenue and incidences of proxy travelling had increased.
Talking to Express Newsline, one of the divisional officials said, 8220;The railway was at a loss as the passenger who had bought a ticket for a particular destination would take a break at two or three places and then proceed towards his destination.8221; The official added that with the board8217;s decision, the passenger would have to book tickets for every place he goes to or he would have to get a reserved ticket till the destination, from where he wanted to take the first break.
However, the recent decision hasn8217;t been welcomed by some officials. Member of the Rail Road Passengers8217; Association Yashwant Nandeya, while condemning the decision said, the board had considered only its benefit and not passengers8217; convenience. Pointing out that it was not always possible to get a reserved ticket, he said with the break journey system, it was easier for the passenger to reach his destination with whatever breaks he wanted.
