PUNE, April 16: The Additional District Consumer Dispute Redressal Forum, Pune, has ordered the chairman of BPL Engineering Ltd and BPL Ltd, 1152/2, Lakaki Road, Shivajinagar, to pay Rs 2.20 lakh with interest at the rate of 24 per cent to Hanumant Narayan Shendkar, a resident of Karanjepul, Baramati, for deficiency in service.The complaint was filed on June 2, 1998, by Shendkar, against the chairman, BPL Engineering Ltd, the manager, BPL Engineering Ltd, Mumbai, and BPL Ltd, with their office at Shivajinagar, alleging manufacturing defect in LCD colour projector.According to the complainant's case he purchased the disputed projector on February 21, 1997, making payment by demand drafts of Rs 22,000 and Rs 1.98 lakh drawn on Janseva Sahakari bank by availing bank loan from the bank and local credit cooperative society.The projector suffered frequent non-functioning incurring losses to the complainant in running mini theatre at his village. The BPL office at Shivajinagar could not make the projector workable and there was no response from the opponents.On not getting the desired response from the opponents, Shendkar approached the consumer court. Forum president K R Pawar and members A S Kote and N V Pote, found that the disputed projector suffered from manufacturing defects, the complainant faced deficiency in service during the warranty period and the opponents practised unfair trade practice on the complainant.
