
New Delhi, August 3: A four-member boxing squad will be the first Indian team to reach Sydney for the Olympic Games after a streneous training-cum-competition programme in Cuba.
After training in Cuba, the team will head for NIS Patiala for a camp till the end of this month before leaving for Sydney on September 2, an IABF source told PTI on Thursday.
8220;We are going much ahead of the Games to undergo proper conditioning prior to the participation in the Olympics,8221; he said.
Sydney Olympic Games will be held from September 15 to October 1.
One major problem being faced here is about lack of communication between the team in Cuba and boxing federation, the source said.
The eight-member team 8212; four Olympic qualifiers along with Mohd Ali Qamar light-fly, Dalbir Singh flyweight, K Sanjit Singh Lt-welter, Jeevan Fernandez middle participated in the July 25-30 Cardin Cardova International Meet, but news of the Indians8217; performance has not reached here so far.
The Indian boxers have one more serious competition to go before their return to the capital on August 10.
They will participate in the second leg of the Cardin Cardova meet that will come to end on August 7.
The Indians are competing with some of the best Cuban pugilists and that will help them improve their skills ahead of the Olympics.
The final entry by name is to be sent to Sydney Olympic Games Organising Committee by August 25.
