If the government wants to tackle the housing shortage, it should encourage rental housing as about 15.8 million houses are lying vacant in the country. Landlords keep their houses vacant as they are afraid of losing control over them. Make a simple amendment to the Rent Control Act: 8220;Repossession of the rented house on an agreed date will be mandatory for all future tenancy agreements.8221; This will encourage landlords to rent their houses without fear.
