As a trilogy that seeks to capture the American century, USA has been compared to Ulysses and War and Peace. But perhaps Norman Mailer surpassed all others when he said of The 42nd Parallel (the first of the trilogy, the other two being 1919 and The Big Money): “The single greatest novel any of us have written, yes, in this country in the last one hundred years.”
