Having entertained the city with their caricatures as cricketing stars Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag and Mahender Singh Dhoni, the city’s duplicate trio has now reached Bollywood.
Balvir Chand (look alike of Sachin Tendulkar), Jeewan Sharma (Virender Sehwag) and Ravi Sharma (Mahender Singh Dhoni ) will now been seen in the upcoming comedy flick Bombay to Goa. This film is being directed by Raj Pendulkar.
Talking to The Indian Express on phone from Mumbai, Balvir Chand said, “Bombay to Goa is a comedy and is full of entertainment. It has all the actors from the famous small screen show The Laughter Challenge. Apart from this, the film also has duplicates of the other Indian cricketers who will also be seen in a comic performance. All the duplicates have been arranged by me for the film.”
Adding to this Balvir said, “Apart from the three of us we have Sanjeev Choudhary who will play Irfan Pathan, Jatin to play Sourav Ganguly and Himanshu to play Rahul Dravid.” Talking about the role of duplicates in the film, Chand said, “We do not have big roles, but it is fun being in the middle of so much laughter. We will be seen doing things like commando training in a jungle — all dressed up in the official uniform of the Indian cricket team and carrying our bats all padded up, ready for the match.”
Chand shot to fame in 1998 after his friends designed his looks to look like Tendulkar. Soon the look-alike business began to rake in both fame and money for Balvir, who has now been a part of the ad world, gone for sponsored matches and even met star Tendulkar in person.
“It is not easy to copy a star who is so visible. But our hard work has paid. My resemblance is so close to Sachin that many a times people actually mistake me for the original when I am in public.”
