MADURAI, April 28: The white paper brought out by the DMK government on the Coimbatore serial blasts was more a `white washing’ report, O Rajagopal, Bharatiya Janata Party leader in charge of Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry and Kerala affairs said here today.

Talking to media persons, Rajagopal charged that the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister (in the white paper) wanted to make it appear that the law and order situation in the state deteriorated since 1992 following the demolition of Babri Masjid. This inference is not correct, he said.

Tracing the background, Rajagopal said that the basic issue was how to set right such a malady.

Though, there was a conspiracy to eliminate L K Advani during his visit to Coimbatore for electioneering, Karunanidhi was anxious to say that they had taken all steps to restore normalcy and that Advani was saved, he pointed out.

Rajagopal contended it was surprising that in Tamil Nadu Hindu organisations and its leaders were targeted. Yet, none of the accused had been convicted. Is itbecause the administration was not serious in getting the culprits convicted for certain technical flaws, he questioned and feared that allowing such accused to go scot free may result in occurrence of such incidents regularly. He further said that such a situation was a sad state of affairs and the lukewarm attitude to criminals only reflected on the poor administration.

He reiterated his demand for a CBI probe into the Coimbatore blasts and an inquiry by a High Court judge preferably from other State.

Replying to a specific question, Rajagopal said that there was no need for another Central team to inspect or review the law and order situation in Tamil Nadu at present.

Clarifying a report submitted by BJP Parliamentary team which visited Tamil Nadu on three earlier occasions to study the law and order situation, Rajagopal said it was the DMK which has been supporting the Islamic fundamentalists in Tamil Nadu and not all parties.

So far as AIADMK was concerned, he said that the reference made in theBJP’s report was not against the AIADMK party as such, but the report had mentioned that some leaders in the AIADMK alone had connections with terrorists. This has been wrongly interpreted by the DMK, he clarified.

The BJP team had gathered detailed information about the activities that were on in the State during its visits in the past and only based on those reports the findings were presented.
