As many as nine out of 29 members of the current Lok Sabha are contesting Madhya Pradesh Assembly polls, a number large enough to warrant an early debate on whether the movement from the Lok Sabha to a state Assembly is a demotion or not.

The BJP has fielded seven out of its 24 Lok Sabha MPs while Chandrabhan Singh, whom the party expelled after the trust vote, will contest on the Congress ticket. The party had accused him of taking a bribe to abstain during the crucial vote.

Congress MP from Sidhi, Manik Singh, will contest on the Samajwadi Party ticket as the BJP ditched him at the last moment. He had joined the BJP recently on the condition that the party will field him in the Assembly polls.

However, it8217;s the remaining seven MPs whose presence shows that the BJP has taken seriously the reports that several of its MLAs are facing anti-incumbency.

State in-charge Ananth Kumar had recently admitted that internal and external surveys had shown that the anti-incumbency factor could come into play at several seats.

The MPs who have been asked to take the plunge are: Bhind MP Ramlakhan Singh Bhind, Balaghat MP Gaurishankar Bisen Balaghat, Seoni MP Nita Pateria Seoni, Hoshangabad MP Sartaj Singh Seoni-Malwa, Vidisha MP Rampal Singh Silwani, Dhar MP Chhatar Singh Darbar Gandhwani, and Khajuraho MP Ramkrishna Kusmaria Pathria.
