PUNE, AUG 31: Bharatiya Janata Party president Kushabhau Thakre today underlilned the need for maintaining dignity in the election campaign and urged the politicians to learn to take few casual things in the lighter vein.

Talking to media persons at a 8220;meet the press8221;, organised by Pune Union of Working Journaliists PUWJ, Thakre asked his party leaders not to hit below the belt and maintain decency. He suggested that all the leaders should observe some restraint all the time, particularly during the electioneering, since any casual remark could be misunderstood.

Describing the present Lok Sabha elctions as unnatural, BJP president accused Congress of imposing elections on the country even though they had no alternate programme and leader. He said Sonia Gandhi had dreamt of becoming prime minister without facing the electorates but failed in her attempt and forced the voters to face the election.

Blaming Congress for creating instability in the country, Thakre said power greedy Congress was neither allowing other parties to run the government nor was it coming forward to form a government. He said the voters would punish Congreess in the present election so that it would not be in position to topple any government. He said the people would have to chose either experienced leadership of Vajpayee or inexperienced leadership of Sonia Gandhi. National Democratic Alliance would come back to power by capturing more than 300 seats, he said.

Answering a question on his party8217;s possible alliance with Sharad Pawar, Thakre said Pawar had already announced his intention to maintain equi-distance from Congress and the BJP. He added that his party was fighting election with Shiv Sena and the issue of alliance with Pawar would never come up since NDA would be getting majority to form the government on its own.
