Kelkar to meet bankers today
Mumbai: Finance secretary Vijay Kelkar will meet senior bankers at the Indian Banks8217; Association IBA on Wednesday to review the performance of the banking sector in the last fiscal. The meeting assumes significance in the context of the finance ministry8217;s insistence on interest cuts. Kelkar is expected to meet Reserve Bank governor Bimal Jalan on Thursday. Though billed as a meeting with quot;no specific agendaquot;, bankers are attach importance to the meeting ahead of the credit policy to be announced on April 20. There seems to be a difference of perception between the RBI and the finance ministry on the interest rate front.

Essar Oil GM arrested and released
Jamnagar: Essar Oil general manager marine facilities VKB Singhdeo, arrested for ordering construction of a jetty for its refinery project falling under Marine National Park in violation of Forest Conservation Act, was released on bail when produced before a local court at Khambalia in Jamnagardistrict. According to the forest department here today, Singhdeo was arrested in connection with his orders to make an alleged illegal construction of jetty at the national marine park here. Later, he was released by the Khambhalia court on the bail of Rs 5,000 and with orders not to leave Jamnagar district without permission of the court.
