IT extends date for filing returns

MUMBAI: On account of October 31 and November 1 being public holidays, the Income Tax department has extended the last date for filing returns of income/loss by non-corporates to November 2, 1998. The filing of Form No 2C has been decentralised. An officer has been appointed at every range to receive returns in Form No 2C relating to the territorial jurisdiction of all officers of that range and process them. The name and room numbers of these officers are available at range offices and with public relation officers PROs.

The new return form, Saral Form No 2D, for non-corporate tax payers is optional and the old forms Form No 2, 2A or 3 can still be used. Besides Saral, these forms are also available with PROs. The room and telephone numbers of the PROs are: Aaykar Bhavan and old CGO R No 12, 2082172, Charni Road 812, 2812564 extn 203, Bandra Kurla complex 606, 6453890, Piramal Chambers 103, 4132731 extension 220, Earnest House 312, 2822696/738,Matru Mandir 225, 2869451, Mittal Court 28, 2844730.

IT expo

MUMBAI: The Silicon Valley of India will host its first mega Information Technology event, Bangalore IT.COM 8217;98, between November 1 and November 5, 1998. The organisers, Wistex Foundation, expect around 1.5 lakh people to attend the event. The participants include Tata IBM, Videsh Sanchar Nigam Limited, Philips Software and Mitsubishi among others, a release said.

Reckitt amp; Colman

NEW DELHI: The chairman of PepsiCo India Holdings and president of Pepsi Foods Ltd, PM Sinha, will be the new chairman of Reckitt amp; Colman. He replaces PK Choksey, long-time chairman of the company who stepped down on Saturday at the end of his tenure. Choksey had joined the board of the company as director in 1984 and became its chairman in 1989.

The decision to appoint Sinha was made by the board of directors of Reckitt amp; Colman at a meeting here on Saturday. Sinha has been with Pepsi since 1992. recently, the company had also appointed PranabBaura as the new managing director.

Cargo imports

NEW DELHI: The government today directed customs to immediately implement the green channel clearance facility to cargo imports and extend demurrage-free period for air cargo clearance at airports to five days from the present three days. The direction was issued by the cabinet secretary Prabhat Kumar after a meeting of the export promotion board at Indira Gandhi Air Cargo terminal here. Kumar who heads the board said extension of demurrage free period would become operational within a week. The export promotion board also decided that the export cargo accepting those consignments identified for inspection, will be taken to the bonded area straight from the unloading ramp to effect reduction in handling. This system change will be operational from October 26.

Jindal downgraded

MUMBAI: The Credit Rating Information Services of india limited crisil has downgraded the rating of Rs 6.35 billion non-convertible debenture programme of JindalVijaynagar Steel Limited JVSL from BB8217; to D8217;. The revised rating indicates that the instrument is in default or is expected to default on maturity, Crisil said.

Hutchison Max MD

MUMBAI: Asim Ghosh has joined Hutchison Max Telecom Ltd as its managing director and chief executive officer. Prior to this appointment, Ghosh was in a senior position in Hutchison Whampoa Ltd in Hong Kong, China and South-east Asia.
