
ISPs to set up gateways
NEW DELHI: Government will soon allow Internet Service Providers ISPs to set up international gateways, planning commission deputy chairman K C Pant said today. A national internet backbone is also being set up besides taking up a project to install at least 20,000 km route of very high speed fibre optic lines to facilitate growth of information technology IT, Pant said inaugurating a two-day South Asia conference on global knowledge Tasknet 8217;99.
Stressing the need to narrow the gap between the quot;information rich and information poorquot;, Pant listed the initiatives taken by the government in IT sector and said India has set up 12 software technology parks.
CSE Y2K testing
CALCUTTA: The Calcutta Stock Exchange CSE inched a step forward to attaining Y2K compliance after successfully conducting a mock trading to this effect. The CSE had thus become the second exchange in the country after National Stock Exchange, which had conducted successful mock trading forY2K compliance.
