‘Roots in Kashmir’ (RIK) activists held a protest in New Delhi against the release on bail of militant Farooq Ahmed Dar, better known as Bitta Karate by the TADA court. Roots in Kashmir is a community of displaced Kashmiri youths.

Bitta Karate is a militant who is accused of killing many people during the insurgency in Kashmir. He is believed to have been the local commander of JKLF. While pronouncing the judgment Justice ND Wani said that “The court is aware of the fact that the allegations leveled against the accused are of serious nature and carry a punishment of death sentence or life imprisonment but the fact is that the prosecution has shown total disinterest in arguing the case, which is in complete violation of Article 21 of the Constitution.

The RIK activists have also alleged that the government, which incidentally, is the prosecution in the above-mentioned case, is totally indifferent to the plight of the Kashmiri Pandits. Activist Aditya Raj Kaul, has filed close to 50 RTI’s regarding this, the latest one asking about the cases against Bitta Karate and their status. The Kashmir Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs replied that they had no information to this effect

RIK activist Rashneek Kher said that they planned to carry out similar protests in other cities in India too.
