The images of an MLA firing from an AK-47 rifle along with policemen must have come as a major embarrassment for the Bihar Police, for Bhola Chowdhury, in-charge of the police firing range where the incident took place, was suspended in a hurry. However, the state has not yet taken any action against the MLA.

The incident took place last Wednesday, when LJP MLA Vijay Kumar Singh went to the local police firing range along with his bodyguards and practiced firing. The matter came to light when the images were flashed by a local news channel.

Aurangabad SP Sushil Khopde said the MLA and gone to the firing range along with two bodyguards. 8220;The MLA requested the firing range in-charge that he be allowed to practice. He fired around six rounds,8221; the SP said. Asked why the MLA was spared despite the fact that he had trespassed into a prohibited zone, the SP said: 8220;But here the firing range in-charge was guilty since he allowed the MLA as soon as he made a request,8221; the SP pointed out.

The MLA too justified his actions. 8220;I live in a Naxalite infested region. If there is an attack tomorrow8230; then I should be in a position to use his weapon and save my life.8221;
