CHANDIGARH, April 23: Archers from Bihar had a full say in the FITA Round Modern on the second day of the 18th sub-junior and 20th junior National Archery championship at Sector 42 Sports Complex here today. Bihar not only won the individual and team titles in the sub-junior boys and girls category, but also had the distinction of improving upon their previous mark of 2521/3240 by 14 points, in the team championship in the girls section.

The old record was set in the 1995 edition, held in Meerut in Uttar Pradesh. Bihar8217;s Soumitra Soren also broke the old meet record in the 30 metres individual boys section with a score of 339/360. The old record of 338 was held by Vishal of Punjab.

Vishwash of UP was second with a score of 320 while Prem Purty was third in 319 points.

However, in the boys individual events, in the 50 and 40 metres, Bihar were relegated to the second spot by UP8217;s Vishwash. In the 50 metres Vishwash shot 303 points to bag the first position. Bihar8217;s Sanatan Soren missed to hit the bulls eye in the last two round and took the second position behind the winner with 299 while his team mate Prem Purty was third in 293.

In the 40 metres, Vishwash had a score of 309/360 and was placed first. Santan Soren and Gurucharan Besra were second and third respectively with a score of 297 and 284 points.

In the girls section, Bihar8217;s Bhagybati Devi claimed gold medals in the 50 and 40 metres. However, in the 30 metres, she was pushed to second place by team mate Soumitra Soren, who took the first place with a score of 305/360. Bhagybati had a score of 293. Wepfepeu also from Bihar shot 293 to win the third place.
