NEW DELHI, October 27: Union Academy never had it so bad. Today they went down to Lyallpur Khalsa Senior Secondary School from Jalandhar 0-7 without much fight in the Junior Nehru Hockey Tournament at the National Stadium here today. If this was completely a one-sided game, the second match of the day was in total contrast. Army Boys Sports Coy Dhanapur struggled before getting past Shivalik Public School Chandigarh 3-1.

The junior team of the local outfit was all at sea aginst an attack that had teeth. Not knowing how to counter, the Union Academy boys left a lot of gaps and the defence was in total disaary. Taking advantage of their poor game plan, the Jalandhar boys mounted the pressure time and again after spending some initial minutes sizing up their opponents.

The Jalandhar boys took the lead in the ninth minute of the game off their fourth penalty corner when Adarsh Uppal made no mistake with his first-timer. Within the next four minutes a left-wing move resulted in Satnam Singh increasing the lead with a neat placement.

Satnam again seized the opportunity once again as he took a loose ball near the centre line to dodge past three defenders before slamming in for his second goal in the 21st minute.

All the while the Union Academy boys were mute spectators and one thought their game would improve after the break. But it went from bad to worse as in this session they let in their rivals score four more goals. In fact, the Jalandhar boys were guilty of not able to convert a couple of more chances that came their way.

After the break, the Jalandhar boys gained in ascendancy and struck off their fifth penaty corner when Satinder Pal Singh converted. Their fifth goal came in the 51st minute after they wasted a couple of chances. Pavitrajit Singh accounted for this goal, capitalising on a move emanating from the right.

Salwinder Singh converted their seventh penalty corner and Amarjeet Singh made no mistake with his shot following their 10th penalty corner.

The Shivalik boys were no match to the Dhanapur school boys. Yet, the former made a match of it, at least initially, by putting up a good resistance. The Army Boys struggled to begin with but got their act together as the match progressed.

The Dhanapur, with speed and skill, attacked right from the word go. But their first goal came as the teams approached the interval. Capitalising on a pass from left, Arvind Kumar put the team ahead. On resumption, however, the Shivalik School boys held the upperhand but the equaliser eluded them as Arvind struck once again. This was time for the Chandigarh boys to pull up their socks and restored parity through Rajpal Singh but Arvind completed a fine hat-trick in the 61st minute to put the issue beyond Chandigarh.
