PUNE, May 23: Municipal Commissioner Arun Bhatia has suspended an assistant engineer and a sub engineer for their alleged involvement in a financial irregularity in the electrification of the civic body8217;s Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Bhavan in Mangalwar Peth.

The Municipal Commissioner has also instituted a departmental inquiry against Assistant Engineer M P Shinde and Prakash Kolhapurkar from electrical department who were the in-charge of electrification work at Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Bhavan.

The Karve Road based M/s Hightech Engineers company, which had been awarded the contract of the electrification work, has been directed to stop work with immediate effect.

The PMC administration has been directed to stop the payment of all bills submitted by the company for the electrification work. Moreover, the civic administration is contemplating the possibility of imposing a fine on the company.

Pune Municipal Corporation had issued the work order of the electrification on April 23,1998. The M/s Hightech Engineers company was allegedly paid an excess amount of Rs 97,937.
