PUNE, April 4: Mincing no words, Chief Minister Narayan Rane on Sunday was emphatic when he brushed aside queries on Arun Bhatia who was a non-issue8217; for the State Government and categorically ruled out his reinstatement as the Pune Municipal Commissioner.
Rane, in the city to present Darpan8217; awards to journalists for their outstanding contribution to Marathi journalism, made no bones about his feelings over l8217;affaire Bhatia which was now a closed chapter for the state. quot;We have to consider various problems facing Pune than a single Bhatia, quot; the Chief Minister told media persons after attending the function.
Rane also dismissed queries regarding Bal Thackeray8217;s reported statement in a local daily that the Shiv Sena chief would pressure the CM to reinstate Bhatia. quot;I met Balasaheb at Mumbai last night. We spoke on various issues. However, Bhatia did not figure in our talks, quot; Rane averred. Rane ruled out any posting for Bhatia at Brihan Mumbai Municipal Corporation and said he had already been directed to take charge of the Archives at Mumbai.
Earlier, at the function, Rane however took the opportunity to attack Bhatia in an oblique reference when he pointed out that no government officer should consider himself bigger than the State while the people8217;s movement should fight for a more constructive social cause than rallying behind an official. In the same vein, Rane continued that it was not unusual for a CM to be greeted with both bouquets and brickbats. quot;In a democracy we have to be prepared for anything- be it black flags or red roses, quot; Rane said referring to the demonstrators who had waved black flags at the CM8217;s motorcade that had driven in at the SCERT premises amid unprecedented security.
