New Delhi, May 15: Arjun Atwal shot a three-under 69 to be joint fifth at the $200,000 Gaum Open after the second round, according to information received here. Atwal had the best scores among the six Indians who made the cut which was applied at three over 147.
Atwal, who was lying joint 12th after round one with a two under card, did better today to aggregate five under 139, three strokes behind the leaders. However, Vivek Bhandari who was joint fourth after the first round, slipped to joint 17th after he returned a poor card of one over 73 to aggregate two under 142.
The best turnaround among Indians was Gaurav Ghei who not only made the cut but had a two under 70 card which more than made up for his abysmal three over on the first day. After being joint 71st yesterday, he improved his position to joint 35th after 36 holes.
Meanwhile yesterday’s leader Japanese Katsumune Imai slipped to joint fifth after he went one over. The top spot is shared by Taiwan’s Lin Chien-bing and American Jerry Smith withan aggregate of eight under 136. Both had an indentical five under 67. Two shots adrift the leaders were Hsieh Yu-shu (Taiwan) and Gerry Norquist (US) with a cumulative score of six under 138.
