SURAT, JAN 3: It needed an Atul Bedade to conquer the viciousness in the wicket, and sure enough he cracked a sparkling and long overdue knock of 66 (4×6, 4×4) that won Vadodara the West Zone Ranji one-dayer against Gujarat at the Lalbhai Contractor Stadium here on Sunday.
The wicket which started turning from the onset became vicious by the time Vadodara, who won the toss and fielded first, took to the crease.
Chasing 164 for a victory on the track was not an easy job and the visitors lost three wickets for only 29 runs. However, Atul Bedade, promoted to No 3, justified the faith his skipper reposed in him and started cautiously and in association with Tushar Arothe added 84 runs for the fourth wicket.
Once he got his eyes in, Bedade went on the rampage.
Earlier, except for a 53-run partnership for the third wicket between Vipul Patel and Mukund Parmar, none of the Gujarat batsmen could contribute substantially and were restricted to 163 by Vadodara.
Arothe emerged as the most successful bowlerwith 4 for 37 while left-arm spinner Darshan Mulherkar scalped three victims for 32 runs.
