CHENNAI, MAY 20: The fate that befell losing Pakistani captains is now a legion. Rameez Raja, captain of the current tour, is not worried about the whiplash’ that he would have to face back home if his boys play a bad game. The younger brother of the stylish Wasim Raja, a perfect ambassador, who is raring for a crucial war on the wicket to “win friends”.

The man who learnt the rudiments of the game at Alf Gover school, readily obliged when pressmen asked him for a pre-match interview as he was leaving the nets towards the dressing room.

He fielded the questions as deftly as he faces pacemen. The stroke was not different, not unusual from a Pakistani captain who sing one refrain: “We want to win this match. We want to beat India in India. That’s our main task at hand.”

Are you under pressure?

“There is absolutely no pressure.”

What will be the composition of your team?

“It will be more or less the same side which played the last match.”

Is the sultry weather bothering you?

“Cricket is a demanding game. It is different things at different places. You feel the pinch in the weather or the pitch.”

Does India losing to Sri Lanka matter?

“It sure does give us confidence.”

If you win the toss, what will you choose: bat or bowl?

“We would like to get a decent total. I was watching the Sri Lankans on the television set. On the Hyderabad pitch, they could have scored anywhere between 260 and 280.”

Does it mean you will bat first?

“(Laughs). We haven’t decided yet.

Did you study the wicket ?

“It looks like a batting wicket.”

Has nine days of rest affected you? Is there confidence gained or confidence lost?

“The confidence is there. We have come after spending a week in Delhi. That’s little comforting. The nine days haven’t upset our rhythm. The weather here is sticky. We are lucky we came just two days ago.”

Are you happy with the team?

“I can’t say that I am not happy (smiles).”

Is Aamir Sohail coming?

“No answers. Don’t talk to me about Aamir Sohail.”
