
BANUR PATIALA, MARCH 18: The station house officer of Banur Police Station, Baldev Singh has been placed under suspension for alleged delaying in registration of rape case that took place on March 8, involving a 7-year old local girl.
According to sources, Pritam Singh replaces the suspended SHO who has been sent to Patiala Police Lines for smooth and impartial conduct of inquiry being ordered agaist him.
Pritam Singh has taken over his new assignment as Banur SHO, sources add. They added that it was a follow-up action of news-item published exclusively in Newsline on March 11.
Patiala Senior Superintendent of Police Parampal Singh Sidhu when contacted on telephone confirmed the suspension of Baldev Singh and said that the departmental inquiry had already been ordered for causing undue delay in registration of rape case against the accused. He was also charged with failing to deal with public properly when they visited the police station, he added.
Hundreds of Banur residents had gheraoed the local police station and forced the police officials to register a criminal case against the accused taxi-driver, Charanjit alias Mohalla, accused in the crime.
The villages apprehended the culprit on the very day of incident and handed to the police. When the police failed to register case even after 48-hour of incident, the irrate villagers surrounded the police station for more than five hours. They had demanded transfer of SHO and sought an independent inquiry in the registration of case. The girl was allegedly lured on behest of giving a drive and raped he in wear field nearby.
