PUNE, Dec 3: Two unidentified persons duped the Tulshibag branch of the Rupee Cooperative Bank by encashing cheques bearing forged signatures of two accounts holders. Vishrambag police started searching for the two conmen after the bank branch manager, Mukund Vishwanath Joshi, lodged a First Information Report (FIR) against them on Wednesday morning.

Joshi stated in the FIR that an amount of RS 39,450 was withdrawn against cheques on which signatures of Vishnu Hari Deshpande and Dattatray Ganpat Gadekar were forged. Both the cheques were issued in the name of Vinayak Laxman Kelkar of Sadashiv Peth, the FIR added.

Both the cheques were encashed between October 6 and November 5. The incident came to light when Deshpande and Gadekar approached the bank and claimed that they had never issued checks in the name of Vinayak Kelkar, police said.
