Government schemes getting completed ahead of schedule is news anywhere across the country. But it8217;s a bigger news when a government acknowledges the achievement and rewards someone for accomplishing the rare feat.

Assistant Engineer Sunil Kumar of Bihar Bridge Construction Corporation was taken by surprise when Chief Minister Nitish Kumar handed him an envelope at a function containing return air tickets to Bangkok for him and his family with complete arrangements made for the trip. Kumar said this was a small reward from the government for the engineer8217;s

efforts to complete a bridge in a record one-and-half

years time.

While inaugurating the bridge, Kumar thanked Sunil and said all government servants who perform would be rewarded. The Chief Minister said his government has allotted Rs 300 crore in 2006-07 for construction of bridges to connect far-flung areas.

Talking about how he got the job done much before time, Sunil said he merely got the sub-structure ready and he and his team planned meticulously to erect the superstructure. 8220;It8217;s unbelievable. I would never have been able to afford a foreign trip. Rewards of this kind will boost the morale of all engineers,8221; he added.

Meanwhile, the story of 353.20-metre bridge on NH-77 over river Bagmati is no less striking. Construction of this bridge, connecting the districts of Muzaffarpur and Sitamarhi in North Bihar, started way back in 1989. However, due to various reasons construction had stopped. It commenced only after the Nitish Kumar government came to power.

A new target of completing the construction before monsoon hits the state this year was fixed. But the bridge was erected well in advance. 8220;It has come as a boon for the people in the region,8221; said Rampravesh Ram, a villager.
