PUNE, APR 2: Taking the competition to Kinetic8217;s camp, Bajaj Auto today launched 4-stroke automatic geared 8220;Saffire, a product jointly developed by the product engineering division of Bajaj Auto and the renowned Japanese design house Tokyo Ramp;D.

The company is also close to introducing three-wheelers run on alternative like the CNG compressed natural gas as and when introduced in Pune, Ravichandran said adding these versions would have the facility to switch over from petrol to cng and even vice versa.

Replying to questions, Ravichandran, quoting company chairman Rahul Bajaj, said Bajaj Auto is gradually increasing conversion from the two stroke to four stroke which is today in the ratio of 65:35. By 2000, four stroke production would be around 45 per cent.

He was, however, non-committal on the complete phase out of the two stroke vehicles saying that the company would want the subscribers to shift to four stroke versions, but would not not deprive those who wanted two stroke vehicles.

Quoting figures, Ravichandran said Bajaj auto had registered a growth of over 30 per cent in the indo-Japanese motorcycle segment during 1999-2000.
