KHARAR, Dec 18: The doctors at a local private health clinic, have performed a Caesarean section to deliver a baby after a rare ectopic pregnancy.Manjit Kaur 27 of nearby Chapparchiri village, delivered a healthy male baby on November 29.

Normally a foetus develops in the uterus but in this case, the foetus developed outside the uterus and remained in the mother8217;s abdomen during the full term of the pregnancy.

8220;It was on opening the abdomen that the baby was found lying outside the uterus. It had been receiving nourishment from the walls of the ovary and intestines8221;, said Dr Anil Sharma in-charge of the hospital, who led the team of doctors who delivered the baby. Dr Sharma said the patient suffered more than usual during her pregnancy. Though she had got ultrasound tests done twice during the pregnancy, the pregnancy was diagnosed as being a uterine. At full term, the baby was found lying in an abnormal position following which a Caesarean section was indicated.

Dr Sharma disclosed that ectopic pregnancies are rare and usually occurr once in 10,000 cases. 8220;In most such cases, the pregnancy does not last its full term. But Manjit has gave birth to her first baby after a three-long Caesarean section.8221;

Dr Kumar and Dr S. K. Gaba assisted Dr Sharma.
