A few days after VHP leaders virually gave their no-objection to the proposed mosque outside the disputed area in Ayodhya, the Parishad today claimed that any issue concerning the solution of the row should be taken in consultation with the High-Powered Committee for Temple Construction. The VHP has decided to hold a meeting of the committee in Ayodhya on January 24 to discuss the issue. Amid allegations that it had the backing of the Centre, the Ayodhya Jama Masjid Trust had announced mosque construction outside the disputed area from March 21. The VHP leaders including Ashok Singhal and Pravin Togadia had initially not objected to the proposal. But it was rejected at the meeting of the VHP’s central managing committee in Hyderabad.‘‘There is no question of permitting construction of any mosque within the geographical boundaries of the temple town. The VHP’s supreme body for temple construction is meeting in Ayodhya on January 24 to take stock of the situation,’’ said Sharad Sharma, VHP media in-charge in Ayodhya. The VHP has already finalised a Shri Ram Mahayagna at Ayodhya between March 21 and April 2. The event would see a large number of VHP supporters in the town. The VHP’s firm no to mosque construction outside the disputed area is bound to cause trouble for the Ayodhya Jama Masjid Trust which had claimed that VHP leaders have been taken into confidence for the same.
