Hamilton, March 30: Australia’s record-breaking cricketers have not just banished opposition teams in recent months, they have also frightened away punters.

“You can’t really blame them,” CentreBet spokesman Gerard Daffy said. “Punters in Australia are used to betting on teams at a backable quote and now we’ve had to serve them up so short that they don’t worry about it.”

“This team, under Steve Waugh, just attacks all the time and they just don’t give up and it’s killed cricket betting for the time being. Even the people that back outsiders in cricket matches have disappointed. Why waste your money?”

Bookmakers expect the streak to continue over the next five days, installing Australia as the 4-7 (odds on) favourite to win the third Test in Hamilton, with New Zealand pushed out to 6-1 against.
