HARARE, OCT 17: Australia swept to a 10-wicket victory over Zimbabwe after the home side’s second innings collapsed in the one-off Test today. Zimbabwe plummeted from 200 for two to 232 all out as the last eight wickets were snapped up in 24.5 overs on the fourth day at the Harare Sports Club.
Fast bowler Glenn McGrath, with the second new ball, and off-spinner Colin Miller started the collapse before Shane Warne snatched three of the last four wickets without conceding a run in 13 balls.
Zimbabwe, 228 runs behind on first innings, left Australia just five runs to win and the visitors accomplished that in four balls.
Greg Blewett pulled Bryan Strang to the boundary before the left-arm seamer delivered a wide to give Australia the inaugural Southern Cross Trophy.Earlier, opener Trevor Gripper and Murray Goodwin had shared a first-wicket stand of 98 as Zimbabwe looked as though they could take the match into a fifth day and maybe even save it as Gripper made 60 (239b, 286m, 6×4) and Goodwin 91 (263b,336m, 10×4).
