Hong Kong, November 9: India8217;s Arjun Atwal, coming here after a fantastic Hero Honda Masters win, looked unperturbed, playing along golf8217;s greatest players to take a share of the first round lead on Thursday in the 300,000 Star Alliance Open.

Atwal, paired with Spain8217;s five-time Major winner Seve Ballesteros, fired a five-under-par 65 in windy conditions at Clearwater Bay Golf and Country Club to finish the day tied with Taiwan8217;s Yeh Wei-tze and Sweden8217;s Stephen Lindskog. Hong Kong8217;s Derek Fung and Australia8217;s Scott Hend and Chris Gray are two strokes back in the Davidoff Tour event.

Atwal moved to the top of the leaderboard again, thanks to a four-under-par 31 on the back nine. Ballesteros carded a 74, while the tournament8217;s other star attraction Sam Torrance finished with a 71.

8220;It was fun playing with Seve. I played with Vijay Singh in the third round in the Taiwan Open a few months ago and he told me to play your own game and don8217;t think about who you are playing with. I wasn8217;t at all nervous,8221; said Atwal. The 27 year old holed a 25 footer for par on the first to set him on his way and in gusty weather he did well to make only one bogey in the day.

8220;I8217;ve been working with my coach Sam Frost on a better tempo, particularly when I8217;m putting. I have to maintain the right thoughts and keep it slow and keep it low,8221; added Atwal, who also won the Indian Open last year.
