NEW DELHI, November 17: Cavalry/Arty will take on OTA in the final of the Baria Cup (4 goal) polo tournament at the Army Equestrian Centre ground here. In the two one-sided semifinals played today, Cavalry-Arty crushed Palisades 9-1 1/2 and OTA outplayed Chattarpur 4 1/2-1.
Atul Gupta played a pivotal role in Cavalry-Arty’s big win, scoring six goals, four of them in a row. J S Shekhawat scored two goals and Sunil Shiv das completed the tally for the winners.
Shailendra Singh was the lone scorer for the losers who began the match with 1/2 goal on handicap.
Shailendra Singh (2), Tarun Sirohi and B S Lakra were the goal-getters for OTA, who began the match with 1/2 goal on handicap against Chattarpur. Vishal Singh was the only scorer for the losers.
The date for the final will be announced later.
Underdogs Teachers defeated Hyderabad Chaugan 8 1/2-2 in the opening match of ABN Amro Bank Bhopal-Pataudi Cup (8 goals) polo tournament at the Army Equestrian Centre grounds. Navin Khanna scored three goals while R P Singh and Vishal Singh got two each for the winners who began with 1 1/2 goal on handicap. basheer Ali and Harshwardhan Singh got a goal each for the losers. In the one-sided affair, Teachers began well with three goals and by the end of second chukker, they had increased the lead to 4-1/2. They added three more in the third chukker and the last one was a mere formaility.
