AHMEDABAD, SEPT 5: As many as 18 passengers were injured when 12 coaches and the engine of the Delhi-Ahmedabad Ashram Express8217;, coming from New Delhi, derailed between Maval and Amirgarh station of Ajmer division in the Banaskantha district of Gujarat in the wee hours of today.

The Western Railway sources said here that though 18 passengers had received injuries in the accident, they all were discharged after first-aid treatment by the Railway medical team.

The general manager of Western Railway V D Gupta and other senior officers of Ajmer division have also rushed to the accident site to ascertain the cause of the derailment and to supervise the relief and rescue works. The train had left New Delhi yesterday evening and was scheduled to reach here this morning.

A special train has also been sent from here to Amirgarh to bring the injured and stranded passengers to the Ahmedabad, which was expected to arrive here this evening, the sources added.
