FEROZEPUR, March 31: The Golden Arrow division has set up a hi-tech satellite station library here.
The library has been developed by renovating an old, dilapidated building which was earmarked for demolition. It now has over 20,000 books on a large range of disciplines. The target, say officials, is to have 50,000 books in the next two to three years.
Video games, computer games, computer-based studies and internet facilities have already been provided. The library thus caters to the varied literary, educational and recreational interests of persons of all age-groups. The entire rang of books have been automated for efficient management. The library also boasts of a spacious reading and reference room.
The library was conceptualised by Maj. Gen. K.C. Padha, VSM, General Officer Commanding, following his desire to create something unique in the Year of the Jawan.8217; It has been named after Dronacharya, the guru of the art of warfare. An eye-catching feature of the library is the delicately crafted statue of Dronacharya, which stands at the entrance of the structure.
The building housing the library is surrounded by an artistically landscaped garden. The newly laid out, lush green lawns are adorned by about 60 varieties of flowers plants, and trees. The aesthetically designed gazebo with its arched entrance has been constructed against the backdrop of a colourful rose garden. The garden features a kidney-shaped pond, complete with a marble fountain.
In keeping with the spirit of the operation Sehyog launched by the army, the G.O.C. has decided to open the library to all education institutions in Ferozerpur and the civil population.
