Another warrant for Soren

After being served an NBW in the Chirrudih massacre case, the Bistupur police have now procured a production warrant against JMM chief Shibu Soren in connection with a case pending before a local court since 1999. Police said the court of the CJM in Jamshedpur issued the warrant on Wednesday in connection with a case relating to an incident for which an NBW was issued against him four years ago.

Despite prohibitory orders imposed in view of the parliamentary polls, police said, Soren along with party workers had assembled in front of Chamaria guesthouse on August 8, 1999 to pay tribute to their slain president, Nirmal Mahato. The activists had opened fire in the air, which led the then executive magistrate to lodge an FIR against Soren, party leaders Dulal Bhuiyan and Champai Soren, and others. — ENS & PTI
