Friday seemed to be a day of sorts with several city schools celebrating their respective annual days. Students of the junior wing of Shemrock Secondary School went all out to make their annual day an affair to remember. The function marked the culmination of various cultural activities that gave students a platform to showcase their talent. The students presented an orchestra, a classical dance and a ballet during the event. A play on environment conservation by students of Class II addressed the need to stop the catastrophic effects of pollution. Principal Air Cmde SK Sharma also addressed the gathering on the occasion. At Bhavan Vidyalaya in Panchkula, as many as 250 students dressed in colourful costumes participated in the musical play based on the life of Rani Lakshmi Bai to commemorate 150 years of her martyrdom. The chief guest on the occasion was Kulwant Singh, Chairman of the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Managing Committee, Panchkula Kendra. The students enthralled the audience with their performances which carried them back to the historical British era. Meanwhile, to mark their school’s 35th Founder’s Day, students of St Kabir Public School in Sector 26 presented a stage show. George Shear, principal of St Xavier’s High School, Panchkula was the chief guest on the occasion. The programme began with a prayer, which was followed by folk dances, ballet, orchestra and bhajans. Children also conveyed the message of peace and harmony through Kabir’s sayings. The programme was an in-house production by the school teachers.
